Daily Observation of Whales and Dolphins
Attention
Due to the special nature of our activities, each customer declares to be over five years old, not pregnant, and in perfect physical and mental health. Espaço Talassa reserves the right to refuse boarding to any client who does not meet these conditions. Clients will not receive any refund or compensation if these requirements are not met.
General Information:
- A 3hr trip (approximately), everyday, at 9am and 2pm, from Lajes do Pico.
- Small groups (maximum 12 or 24 people).
- Present yourself 30 minutes before departure for normal procedure.
What’s the plan?
- Briefing presenting an overview of the whales and dolphins and sea conditions for the trip.
- At the sea, presentation on biology, animal behavior and the history of whale-boats.
- The animals are located thanks to our look-out in Lajes (Vigia da Queimada) and with help from the hydrophones which equip our boats.
- Debrief with your crew when you return from sea and have a free drink!
What else?
- Free access to Espaço Talassa library and entrance to the Whaler’s museum. (ask us how!)
- Book your lunch or dinner at bistrot “whale’come ao Pico”. You can choose from a meat, fish or vegetarian dish of the day. It’s included bread and water.
- Insurance (general assistance, illness, accident, cost of rescue operations).
- Environment taxes and cetaceans observation permit included.
- Azorean legislation (Decreto 99/9-A, 14th and 15th articles) does not authorise being in the water with the large cetaceans. For that you will need a special authorisation from the Environment Secretariat. We can help you with the administrative procedures.
RENTING A BOAT AS “PRIVATE CHARTER”
- Ideal for groups, families and for couples who wish to be alone.
- A semi-rigid 8,50m boat up to 12 people.
- Video crews, photographers and researchers, can choose the best moment according to criteria such as light, sea conditions, the location of the species.
